Sailors with Auxiliary Engines

Sailors have three options.

(1)  Sign up for American Sailing Association (ASA) Certified Basic Sailing Sailing Lessons at the New Jersey Sailing School, an ASA Certified School. The New Jersey Sailing School has been Nationally recognized for eight years as the ASA Northeast / Outstanding School of the year. You will get two days of hands-on instruction aboard a sailboat of roughly 25 to 26 feet in length.  You will also receive the nationally recognized American Sailing Association Basic Keelboat Certification and your NJ Safe Boating Certificate (Additional time will be required to earn the NJ Safe Boating Certificate. There will be no additional cost to earn this NJ Safe Boating Certificate if you mention coupon NJSB 2008 at the time of booking. (Offer Expires October 2008 and is only valid if you mention the code NJSB 2008 at the time of booking. This offer cannot be combined with other offers).

The NJ Sailing School has two convenient locations in New Jersey:
Riverside, NJ at Winter Yacht Sales (On the Delaware, just 25 minutes from Center City Philadelphia)

The Boating Safety Test-Out-Option

Anytime in Pt. Pleasant. E-Mail to make appointment. Weekends Preferred. Do not delay! This option disappears in June 1, 2008!

There is a window open to allow experienced boaters to "test out" and receive the required permanent certificate.

Call us or E. mail us to come in and take the test. Weekends are Preferred

Please allow 1 full hour to complete this 50 question test.

We can provide you with a text to study from or you can acquire a generic boating safety manual

You will have to establish a user name and password. The cost is $6.00 + $1.40 postage

Here is a summary of what is needed
FOR THE TEST-OUT-OPTION:

     1. You must have been born before 1979
     2. You must have at least 100 hours of power boat experience and document this by will be a self-certification statement.
     3. There is a State of NJ fee of $25, non refundable
     4. You must provide proof of age, such as a drivers license
     5. You must pass the examination with a score of 70% or higher.
     6. If you do not pass this examination on the first attempt, you may not retake this examination. You will have to complete an approved boating safety course and then pass an examination
        as part of the course to receive a boating safety certificate.
     7. This test out option expires on June 1, 2008. Thereafter, you have to take the full course regardless of age or experience!
